| | Model of the car: | Sentra GXE | | | General comments: | I expected this car to have incredible reliability as I have read in many places. I bought this car with about 58,000 miles on it a year a go and sold it with 77,000 on it. It drove for a few months and then the alternator died and had to have that replaced ($400) then the starter went ($400) then the transmission went and it had to be rebuilt ($1600) then the alternator got disconnected some how and that was easily fixed. Then the transmission went again but this time it was only the governor and was covered under warrantee. The guy I bought it off of was a good friend of mine and he treated the car like a pet and got all the regular maintenance done at his local dealership. I expected this car to last FOREVER. I sold the car in august of 2002 which was about a year after I bought it. The car struggled to accelerate and get up hills. I’m sure the 5-speed version would have been more fun to drive and zippier. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a Nissan again despite the very reliable reputation. The car cost me about $3500 in one year to own. It was GREAT on gas however. It handled well and had responsive steering. The interior was comfortable and all the controls were easy to use. It looked kinda cool for a economy car. The trunk leaked water if you washed it or it rained. Not a terrible car but WAY too many repairs for as well as it was treated. $3500 in repairs for a year is far too much for this car. I think I had a lemon and it’s not the norm for Sentra owners. I don't think I'd recommend this car to anyone simply because of my bad experiences with it, but I think that my car was an exception to the rule and was a lemon. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | unreliable
