| | Model of the car: | SE W Perf Pkg/ With Sunroof | | | General comments: | I’ve had his car for 34 day’s now and I have 2200 miles on her. I wanted to put a few miles on it before I put in my two cent’s worth. It’s a must that you drive it and forget about the name on the trunk. This could be Nissan’s best keep secret. A hot little car for a price that you can’t beat. Go drive a 2001 BMW 325 and then drive the Sentra, and guess what? you’ll be hard pressed to tell the difference. Well, that is until you write out the check to pay for it. I took it on a 700 mile road trip with about half the driving interstate and half on two lane blacktop road. I held it down below 90 on the Interstate just because of the traffic but on the two lane roads I opened it up from time to time and found it to be a pleasure to drive at 100+ . One thing I loved was to find myself in traffic going about 55-60 wait for a passing lane and drop into third gear to start my pass. I would then let the rpm get up to 6000-6200 before I shifted into fourth and then look down at the speedometer and see this little hot rod doing 90+. The thing is you go from 60 to 90 in a hurry! You got to love the power this little 2.0 puts out. Cornering is solid with lot’s of feel. In a very fast sharp turn you can feel the tires begin to slide a little and still have control but don’t push it to far or you’ll do a 180. The car gives you good warning, I like that! I love this car! For the price your not going to find anything better, period! If you want to spend 28,000 for the BMW name be my guest but I’ll have the better overall car for lots less money. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | There are only a few that I can find. The first thing is I don’t like is the anchor covers for the child safety seat below the rear window. The covers a cheap and they tend to come loose and make a noise. It’s an easy fix with a little Velcro but you shouldn’t have to do that. While the stereo puts out 180 watts the speakers suck! They sound good but with that kind of power output they should have selected better speakers. The temp control for the cabin could be better. When it’s not hot enough to have the air on but not cold enough to have the heat on the cabin stay’s very warm even with everything turn down as far as it will go. It really drives me crazy when I have the sunroof open and a window cracked but I can still feel warm air coming from the heater no matter where I direct the air. This is with everything shut off. The best solution I have found is to direct the air to defrost but you can still feel the extra heat. When I wash the car I notice there seems to be a lot of places where water gets in and it takes a long time to flush it all out. What I mean by this is you can dry the car off but for hours you’ll see water seaping out and runing down the side of the car! This is not a problem in the summer but with road salt in the winter I can see a problem down the road if you keep the car for a long time. | | | Previous car: | I took my 93 Sentra to Germany with me in 94 and drove that car 115-125 mile per hour every day. I wish I could have had the 2001 Sentra over there. I’ve driven a fair number of cars in Germany at high speeds and around tight corners. I had 137,000 mile |
