Sentra SE

 Model of the car:Sentra SE
General comments:I was tempted to write this review as soon as bought it. However, I decided to defer judgement after I have driven it for a while. I bought this car brand new, and this is the second year anniversary. First, I bought this car with the sports package, which come with front tower braces between the McPherson strut towers. Rear spoiler, sport tuned suspension, ABS on all four disc, sport molding all around. The sport package was well worth the money. At first I regreted because I didn't hold out for the SE-R. However, the SE-R has a bigger engine, which is more power, but uses more gas also. So it is a trade off. I think that this car with 145 Horse Power, is quite adaquate. I have taken the car to 120 mph and the car does not seem laboring at all. As a matter of fact, the car was very smooth at that speed, and stuck to the road with no floating effect. I think the rear spoiler helped. So far I have 2 major problem with the car, both time was the rack&pinion steering mechanism wearing out. Once at 25,000 miles, and once at 50,000 miles. Other than that, the car had been trouble free.
What things have gone wrong with the car:* The orignal equipment Firstone Firehawk is actually pretty good tire, inspite of all the bad rep of Firestone tires for the SUV's. I have no problem with them. They even can run deflated, that is why it allows the owners to be a little careless with them, and got into a false sense of security. The size (195-55R-16)(rated at 120mph) is also hard to find except at the Firestone store. I have since changed them at Discount Tires for the Yokahoma 205-50ZR16 (Z means it can go up to 150mph) (V rated means it can go up to 180mph). As it turns out, there are many manufacturers for this size. This is the reason you can find them earsier, and because they are more readily available, they are cheaper. I found that the Sentra-SE actually can take 205-50R16,205-55R16, and 215-50R16. Going to these sizes give you better chances to find replacements and lower prices, and they are wider tires.
* Rack&pinion steering wears out too fast. Fortunately it was covered by warrenty both times. I recommend getting the extended warrenty when buying cars. It seems excessive ($925 for 100,000 miles or 7 years), but one repair (Rack&pinion $1,700) will payback in no time.
Previous car:Nissan Maxima '95, numerous Ford Mustangs, numerous Volvo sedans.
